Dear AMSCI Member,
On Wednesday, July 20, 2022, I was honored to represent our Institute in a U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) hearing on the “Economic Impact of Section 232 and 301 Tariffs on U.S. Industries.”
I am attaching below both the oral statement I delivered to the Commissioners and my written pre-hearing statement, both of which are part of the hearing record. We testified on the first day of the three-day hearing.
This was the second time in four months that we represented the Institute in important USITC proceedings. In the previous USITC hearing this past March, we apprised the Commission of serious difficulties encountered in dealing with the Section 232 exclusion process. We also proposed common-sense improvements to the exclusions process aimed at alleviating some of these hardships.
All of this is a key part of the vital work we do in Washington, DC and elsewhere on your behalf. As always, we will continue to keep you fully informed about legislative and regulatory developments that affect your business and livelihoods in the metals supply chain.
With kind regards,
Richard Chriss AMSCI President
